Addison is born, 2/21/07

Good Morning Everyone

Janine and I welcomed Addison Sinclair Dyer to our family last night at 10:47pm.  She is just a beautiful little peanut at 6lbs 9.1 ounces, and 18.5 inches.  Needless to say, we were in another world with excitement.

Janine was admitted to the triage at 4pm.  Walked the halls for an hour until 5:30pm to get everything moving past the 3cm dilation.  6:30pm the epidural was administered (Janine was such a champion here).  8pm Janine's water was broken by our U of Michigan alumn, Dr. Austin.  We watched American Idol and then the 9pm showing of Lost (I got a 45 minute nap in - thank you Janine!).  During this time, Janine went from a 4cm to fully dilated and +2 cm.  At 10:30, we turned off Lost.  With two pushes and a lot of smiles, baby Addison had arrived.

Janine and Addison are doing fantastic.  We feel so blessed to have a happy healthy mom and baby.

Epidural Admnisitered

Just another day at the office.  Janine had lunch with Jodi and Pauletta today.  Pauletta ironically is a nurse from Swedish we befriended when she helped deliver Charlie last year.  The girls were walking home from Bings and Janine started contractions.  I arrived home from work about 3:30 where I met Janine and the girls.  In parallel, a realtor showed up to view the house.  Needless to say, it was a bit crazy.

We were administered into Triage by 4pm.  Janine measured a soft 3cm dilated.  We went for an hour walk through the birthing wing.  Janine was in tears by this point and had dilated to a 4.  The good nurses in triage got her checked in the Swedish Sweets by 6pm.  6:30 pm Janine received her epidural and at 8 eight pm Dr. Kristin Austin broke Janine's water.

Back to my wife for the duration!

Charlie's Birthday

Janine and I were called into Swedish at 10:30am, December 6, to begin induction.  Janine was checked in, given  an IV and Potosen(sp?), and put on a monitor by noon - we were underway.  However, we had a way to go as she was just 2cm dialated.

By 5pm, Janine was a whole 3 cm dialated - called "tight".  So Dr. Loudermilk decided it was time to break Janine's water to speed up the process.  After the water was broken, Janine went through an amazing amount of pain before calling "uncle" and asking for an epideral at 7pm.

Janine's girls came to the hospital to visit us right after the epideral and she was feeling just fine thanks also to her other new short term friend Mr. Fenerin(sp?).  By 8:45pm, Janine had gone through an amazing transformation to 9cm!  We were going to have a baby shortly.

By 10pm, Janine had dialated to 10cm.  We began pushing at 10:15.  Janine was amazing, she worked so hard and had such determination - I was so proud to be by her side trying to help however I could.  At 11:45pm, it looked like we were going to have a baby before the end of the day.

Charlotte Gale Dyer blessed us with her presence at 11:53 pm, December 6,  2005.  She weighed in at 7 lbs, 12.6 ounces, and 21 inches long!

Janine and I were elated to say least.  It was by far one of my best experiences having witnessed Charlie's birth with Janine.

Mom and baby are recovering on day two and doing just fine.  We've had family and friends visit us today and had short naps in between.  Janine and I are now enjoying our time with Charlie this evening by ourselves before we go home tomorrow morning.

We look forward to catching up with everyone in the next couple of days and weeks to come.

False Start

Janine and I went into Swedish Hospital in hopes of Charlie's birth on Thursday, December 1.  It was snowing in Seattle and we were excited to begin labor.  Denied :)  After spending 12 hours in the hospital with Janine hooked to various monitors we were sent home in hopes of some activity come Friday.

Friday morning we were back at Swedish, for more medication and exams to get Janine ready for birth.  By mid morning, we were sent home for the weekend which at that point was a welcome relief.  I was able to get more of my chores done, watch USC vs UCLA, and attend the UW vs Gonzaga game.  Janine kept busy with her own list of to-do's, her girls and the pleasent feeling that comes with being at full term.
